Grammy Crackers: Another Evan Ames OP-ED

So last night was the Grammy’s.  As in my annual tradition I did not watch them.  I find most award shows completely retarded.  An industry that rewards itself every year for still being in business.  It’s like dressing up to masturbate.  I guess it’s fun for you, but nobody else is getting off.

I did however read NPR’s recap and everyones posts on facebook.  Adele won album of the year.  Good for her.  That album is one of the best pop albums I’ve heard in years.  Also read from almost every DJ that watched the show that David Guetta’s CDJ’s weren’t even turned on.  Good for you David.  You are the Milli Vanilli of EDM.  Don’t worry though, you will still sell 8 million records of shitty Electro next year.

In The NPR piece they talked about Bon Iver giving a thumbs up to all the indie artists out there that would probably never get invited to the Grammy’s.  It’s really true.  With the digital age of music, people learned that the major label record deal was nothing but spectacle and you could be more successful with self releases on iTunes than with a Major shoveling shit down the publics throats.  Lily Allen sold a ton of records through Myspace before her record label even realized she was signed to them.  No joke.

The RIAA hates indies.  They hate they can’t control the flow of whats hot and whats not.  They can’t sell you a package like Britney anymore because a real talent can do all the same moves without the fake tits and make up, upload it on to YouTube, and keep the rights to the publishing, masters, and creativity.  Whatever though.   It’s not my place to tell someone how to make money.  It’s not my place to sell some blonde bimbo to fake up her looks and autotune to the brown note to the worst produced house beats in the universe.  All I can say is there’s hundreds of smaller bands with small labels making road trips all over the world playing awesome tunes that most people will not hear.  Bon Iver hit the nail on the head.  Good for him to speak out even though we will probably be saying “Bon who?” by next year.

Finally there was talk of Whitney.  Yes it was sad she died.  The girl had pipes.  She also like to smoke rock through those pipes and get slapped around by Bobby Brown.  It was going to happen.  We all knew it.  I was not even suprised when my girlfriend told me.  Much like Michael, all you can do is move on and appreciate the music.  Ben and I were DJing the night she died.  Ben threw on “I will Always Love You” right before last call.  The bitches went crazy for it.

Bitches love Whitney.

And then they requested LMFAO and Spice Girls.  I think this makes my point more than anything else about the Grammys.
